'Gunjan Saxena- The Kargil Girl' first look: Janhvi Kapoor is all set to fly

The first look of Gunjan Saxena - The Kargil Girl, starring Janhvi Kapoor, was released by the makers on Thursday. The film is a biopic of Gunjan Saxena, one of the first female pilots to fly in combat.

Karan Johar, who is producing the film, tweeted the first look with a caption: “With unabashed courage & bravery, she made her domain in a man’s world. Gunjan Saxena – #TheKargilGirl, releasing on 13th March, 2020.”

Saxena was one of the 25 women who were part of the first batch of women IAF trainee pilots. During the 1999 Kargil war, Saxena and her colleague flight lieutenant Srividya Rajan were part of Operation Vijay in which they were expected to fly Cheetah helicopters to evacuate injured soldiers. For her outstanding show of courage, she was awarded the Shaurya Vir gallantry award. She was also the first woman to receive this honour from the army.

While Janhvi will play the adult version of Gunjan, child actor Riva Arora will essay the younger version of the pilot. Actor Pankaj Tripathi will play the role of Janhvi’s father in the film.

Apart from Janhvi Kapoor, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Vineet Kumar, and Manav Vij. Directed by Sharan Sharma, Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl is slated to release on 13th March 2020.

During the Kargil War of 1999, Gunjan Saxena an IAF pilot flew into the war zone and became the first lady IAF officer to do this. She was awarded Shaurya Chakra for the same.

Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl will be Janhvi Kapoor’s second outing on the big screen. The actress made her Bollywood debut last year with Dhadak. Apart from Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl, Janhvi has films like Dostana 2, RoohiAfza and Takht in her kitty.
